This time last month, we were delighted to announce our answer to the government’s Eat Out to Help Out scheme. With just one final day of the scheme to run, we’re even more delighted to announce a new feature that will allow our clients, having seen the scheme to be a huge success, to run an adapted version into September.

We detailed the unique set of challenges that the government’s scheme posed for our team here. In order to deliver a feature for a non-subsidised scheme posed a totally new set of challenges.

Happily, we were well placed to deal with these, thanks to the fact that we got our first attempt to fulfil the government’s scheme completely wrong; it’s not often that I get to say that!

Our existing Other Payments system, designed to handle cases where a payment still enters the business, but not necessarily at the point of sale, was perfect for the government scheme, after some adjustments. This allowed us to discount the total based on the number of covers, whilst ensuring that revenues and VAT remained correct.

Our first attempt, however, used our Discounts system. And it has transpired that this is perfect for a continuation scheme, unsupported by government subsidies. By resurrecting and tweaking this work, we’ve a perfect solution clients for wanting to carry on into September, and some extras for everyone else too.

How?

To get this working, you will need to access the Discount Manager where some new options on the “Percentage Off Items” promotion can be found:

  • Promotion only applies to tabs
  • Promotion cap

Enabling the first setting will allow you to fill in a value for the promotion cap. This allows for a maximum value to be added, over which no discount will apply, per head. This is linked to our covers system, hence the need for a tab.

On the right-hand side of the page, you will find some new settings that will be of interest to many of our clients, regardless of this scheme. This is the ability to lock discounts to consumption modes. So, like the government discount, it is possible to ensure the discount is only redeemed against Eat-in orders.

That’s all for today, but we’ve got several other things on the way in the very near future. So, keep your eyes peeled!
