Technical Support Assistant

Role and responsibilities

We are looking for an entry-level IT support technician to join the Kobas team. Kobas provides EPoS systems, printers, code scanners, servers and network infrastructure to bars, clubs, pubs and restaurants up and down the country, and we’re growing fast. So if you’re interested in computer systems and solving problems while discovering some fantastic places to eat and drink, this could be the perfect job for you!

The role involves helping to run our email support help desk and being autonomous enough to attend customer venues for installations and system support. We aim to resolve most issues from our London office using remote control software, and we provide on-site support where required.

Our Technical Support Assistant will help us perform smooth, robust installations and quickly troubleshoot operational issues. Preventative maintenance and scalable systems are our lifeblood.

The candidate

Kobas venues run touch screen EPoS tills, built on a solid Linux (CentOS) base, with roaming iPads. We also re-use some Windows based tills, so a wide range of operating system experience will be obtained while in this role. We are looking for someone with a keen interest in technology and a passion to learn about:

  • Linux system administration
  • Having strong organisational and communication skills
  • Networking (LAN segments, router setup)
  • Hardware (e.g. printers, USB devices, machine building and maintenance)
  • Software (e.g. driver installation, iOS app installation)
  • Strong security policies and practices
  • The software and systems behind successful bars, cafés, pubs and restaurants

Advantageous experience:

  • SQL
  • HTML
  • Bash scripting
  • DNS server management
  • Bat / VBS scripting
  • UK Driving Licence

Location

We’re located at the top of the Blackfriars Foundry Annexe, just a few minutes walk from Waterloo, Southwark and Borough tube. Being in a converted foundry means we’ve got plenty of workspace in a building that still expresses its historical roots, but naturally we’ve modernised it with air conditioning and connectivity.

Our location means there are lots of exciting breakfast and lunch options on our doorstep, and of course we’ve got many clients to visit in and around London for those evenings out.
